Katelyn Bartus Sturm is a licensed funeral director who has been serving families with compassion and professionalism since 2021. A proud Pittsburgh native, Katelyn joined Laughlin Cremation & Funeral Tributes in January 2023, where she continues to guide families through some of life’s most difficult moments.

Katelyn graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019, earning dual degrees in Administration of Justice—specializing in Forensics—and Natural Sciences. She went on to pursue her calling in funeral service at the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science, where she received her Mortuary Science credentials in September of 2020, and later received her Funeral Director License in 2021.

With a strong foundation in both science and service, Katelyn brings a unique blend of technical knowledge and empathy to her role. She is dedicated to honoring each individual’s legacy while supporting families through the darkest of times.

In May of 2023, Katelyn married her husband, Cory—also a dedicated funeral director. Together they share a happy life with their 2 Portuguese Water dogs.

Leah Kane, who is originally from North Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, has resided in the Pittsburgh area for over ten years and has more than five years of experience in the funeral service industry. A graduate of the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science in January 2021, Leah built her career around caring for families with empathy, professionalism, and attention to detail. Her commitment to service is evident in every aspect of her work, always placing the needs of the families she serves as her highest priority. Leah’s warm and calming presence has made her a trusted guide during some of life’s most difficult moments. Outside of her professional life, Leah enjoys spending time in nature, hiking, and traveling, finding balance and renewal outdoors. Her genuine care for others, both in and out of the funeral home, reflects her deep commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of the families she is honored to serve.


Shannon M. Barrett

Shannon M. Barrett

Supervisor/Funeral Director/Preneed Specialist

Shannon M. Barrett graduated from Baldwin High School before earning her bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Pittsburgh in 1997. In 1999, she graduated from the Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science and began her career with Laughlin’s as an intern, where she has proudly served families ever since.

Shannon is a licensed funeral director, though much of her work focuses on helping families before the time of need. She specializes in guiding individuals and families in planning in advance, offering comfort and peace of mind through thoughtful preparation.

Shannon is married to Robert E. Barrett, who is also a funeral director. Together, they are the proud parents of their daughter, Maggie Barrett. Outside of her professional role, Shannon most enjoys spending time with her family, cherishing the moments they share together.
